I had been a long month locked up in the hell hole that was politely referred to the Lima Juvenile Detention Facility. Needless to say Santana had managed to integrate into the Juvie culture almost flawlessly, there was a slight bump in the road the first day she was there when one of the more permanent residents had tried to stomp on Santana. The end result was that both girls had a black eye, scratches, and three days in solitary confinement. From then on most of the girls had left Santana alone and she had done the same. Anyways, today was the one month anniversary of her entombment in the LJDF and it was a special day indeed but why this day was special was even more extraordinary, Rachel was coming to visit. Of course the two girls had not laid eyes on each other since that night in the club when Santana had gone all "Die Bitch" on the conceited brunette and that was only to be expected. In fact, Santana had not even had her court date yet for her final sentencing but the jail had decided she was too dangerous to allow bail and they didn't have the facilities necessary to sustain long term imprisonment. A compromise had been met with the Lima Detention Facility, as it was close enough to home to allow visitors but secure enough to ensure that Santana did not attack Rachel again.
Due to the tense situation between Santana and Rachel it came as a great surprise not only to Santana but everyone else in general that Rachel wanted to see the Latina. With a feeling of dread and apprehension Santana had gotten ready for the day and now sat silently in the meeting room where she was handcuffed to the chair and table with two guards standing behind her, tasers and nightsticks at the ready. To make matters worse, Santana had been sitting here now for thirty minutes and was beginning to get fed up. She wouldn't have even agreed to the meeting if her mother hadn't forced Santana into it by threatening her life when she got out of Juvie. So silently Santana sat, handcuffed and guarded; waiting for the girl that she hated the most.

She was scared, no past scared. Rachel Berry knew that she had wanted to come visit her, team member, but she really didn’t know how the other girl was going to handle this. Of course, all Rachel wanted to do was get Santana back so that all the practices could start going smoothly, and that everything that happened could be forgotten, and maybe they could become closer because of this; maybe even friends. For some reason, Rachel had it set in her mind that everything was going to be ok after this, and just now her mind rapid fired and shook her perfect world up. What if Santana wasn’t happy? What if Santana still wanted revenge? What if Santana wouldn’t come back to New Directions? Would everything fall apart at the edges because of something that Rachel had done…? That would hurt her more than the beating that she got – well, mentally.
Pulling on her sleeveless jacket, she remembered the advice that Kurt had told her, and picked up the strappy sandals that he had bought her as an ‘im sorry I didn’t see you in the hospital’ gift. Rachel of course didn’t really have anything that she thought would match so Kurt took her on a shopping spree and they made an outfit that perfectly matched the shoes. Kurt was right, you had to build the outfit around the shoes, otherwise it would be a disaster. Well normally she was a disaster, or that is what he liked to think – Rachel always assumed she looked pretty good, despite the fact that everyone hated her Animal sweaters and the plaid skirts.
Once Rachel got to the center though, she started to freak. Her heart raced like it did at the hospital, and she started getting woozy. “Calm down rachel.” She murmured to herself, grabbing the wall and taking a breath. The last thing that she needed to do was get herself worked up to the point where she was sent back to the hospital and set New Directions back even further than they already were. The point was that they needed to practice now – the sooner they did, the more of an advantage that they would have coming up to a big competition with both of their rivals. If anything, they needed to win this.
A small woman, taller than Rachel, but still short, let her back through the halls, past girls staring at her like she was some piece of meat and they were hungry lions, just waiting for the electric fence to shut off. Pulling her brown bag closer to her chest Rachel timidly kept with the other woman until she opened a door, leading into a room where Santana was handcuffed to nearly everything in sight, and they had weapons out, just incase this cat was about to pounce. “Santana..” Rachel sat across the table from her, trying to make eye contact without flinching. “ I came to see how you were.” Murmuring lightly, she dug through her bag and pulled out some chocolate, “I remembered that this was your favorite – and since I was coming bye, I thought I might bring you some.” Sliding it across the table Rachel waited for the girl to take it, she awaited approval.

Santana could do nothing but stare at the bar of chocolate as Rachel pulled it out and sat it on the table. It sat there for a moment, waiting patiently for Santana to decide whether or not to accept Rachel’s offering or not. If she did reach out and take the chocolate it would be the same thing as a agreeing to a cease fire between them, a forgiveness of past mistakes on both parts. While Rachel was obviously willing to move on from this incident, Santana wasn’t so sure she was. During her time in the facility Santana had spent a lot of her time thinking over the events of that night and the National Tournament before that. At the end of all the pondering, which was rather out of character for Santana, she had ultimately decided to let go of her hostile feelings towards Rachel. Of course there was still some bitterness left over but there was not hate or rage anymore just . . . distaste. Rather than use her words to express this rather difficult and profound emotional change, Santana let her stomach do the talking for her and took the chocolate that still lay between the two girls.
As Santana picked up the bar of chocolate it finally hit her exactly what this bar of chocolate was . . . CHOCOLATE. After a being locked away in a jail for a month, being forced to only eat the disgusting freeze dried food that the Facility provided them this single piece of candy was heaven delivered on a silver platter just for Santana. Almost reverently and with shaking hands, Santana began to unwrap the bar of chocolate. The first sensation Santana opened the package was the overwhelming aroma of coco beans, ground and sweetened, mixed the soft aroma of cream. Right there Santana almost went into a coma from and overdose of pure, unadulterated awesome but no; it wasn’t enough. Santana gently slid the bar of candy out of the wrapper and held in her hand, cradling it as if it were a child. All she could do was sit there and stare at the bar of candy, taking in all of it curves and corners, all the crests and crevices created by the machines that had made this little slice of heaven. After she had devoured it with her eyes and soul, Santana turned the bar and applied pressure to a corner of the candy bar and was rewarded with a dull but sharp crack. A small rectangle of chocolate had been removed from the rest and was now held between Santana’s thumb and pointer finger. Ever so slowly the chocolate was brought up to her mouth. Santana parted her lips and accepted the piece of candy into her body. As the first taste of chocolate reached her taste buds, a bolt of lightning shot through her body and pure desire and pleasure began to course through here veins, demanding more and more and more of the delicious tooth rotting treat. With an immense exertion of human will power, Santana denied her body its desire and continued to chew the piece that was still within her mouth. When the chocolate had been reduced to syrup that filled her mouth, Santana finally swallowed. As the chocolate became one with her body, a warmth began to spread throughout Santana’s body. A warmth that started from her gut and spread to the tips of her toes and fingers, it even managed to reach into Santana’s heart and soften it. With a sigh of pure contentment, Santana put the rest of the bar back into its package; willing to wait until later to finish it.
As the high from the chocolate began to fade, Santana came back to reality and was forced to remember that she had a quest and was currently chained to a table. With a sigh of someone who is being forced to do something they truly hate, Santana looked at Rachel and gave her a little smile. “Thanks for the chocolate, as for how I’m doing . . .” Santana lifted her arms and shook them, causing the chains around her wrists to jingle. “That answer your questions? Anyway, we both know that you didn’t come all the way out here just to ask how I was and give me chocolate; so what is it you want?” Santana leaned back in her chair and crossed her arms, “If it’s for an apology, you’re out of luck. I was already forced to write on to you by my mom and that Judge.” Santana’s thoughts began to wander as she pondered why exactly Rachel was here, there was absolutely no reason for the girl to be here and as such Santana was more than a little curious as to what Rachel was doing here.

Rachel waited for almost too long for the girl to take the peace offering. It wasn’t as if Rachel poisoned the food. She was neither cunning enough, or wanted the girl dead – so that was out of the picture. Why wouldn’t the girl just pick up the chocolate that she had bought her and eat it…? If the candy sat on that table much longer, Rachel would take it as if they were never going to get over their fighting and not only would they be unhappy and bicker, but It seemed like new Directions would lose another member, not that clearly wasn’t their worst or their best. They needed every voice they could have, and losing Santana wouldn’t help. When the girl actually took the chocolate bar, all Rachel could do is smile at Santana, happy that the girl had decided that taking the offering would be a good idea. That was a good sign to Rachel and in all respects she was happy that the fighting between them was over, or at least a whole lot better, because what happened was right – or at least what she heard happened. Fighting to that point wasn’t good, for anyone on a team, and she had a responsibility to the group to mend the relationship, as a captain. Watching the girl eat a part of the delicate chocolate she tried to decide how she wanted to word what she was going to say. Everything had to be perfect to the drama queen. This day would be something that she would tell her kids, and the future kids of Santana, that is if she had kids.
Santana set the chocolate down on the table and gazed at Rachel. The jewish girl let her hand fall to her hands, or more her watch. Could it seriously already be that time..? she’d spent over thirty minutes in the room with Santana, and really they hadn’t spoken but what Rachel had said. Could Rachel really have sat there for that long watching the latina try and decide if she wanted the wrapped perfection. Shaking it off, Rachel met Santana’s gaze, she looked plain, well with that orange jumpsuit and the lack of makeup and lustrous hair, she didn’t really even truly resemble Santana, she was more of natural beauty now. “You know – even in that orange outfit you are extremely pretty.” Rachel smiled and then met eyes with the girl as she thanked her, “That’s no problem –“And then let her continue with her explanation at how she was doing. “well, I guess.” With the movement, the guards stiffened, ready to move if Santana were to lay a finger on the frail girl. Rachel looked to each of them before looking at the smaller one. “Can you take of her chains…? They don’t look very comfortable.” They looked at Rachel incredulously and told her it was for her own safety. “ I don’t need two guards and chains, you two will be enough, please will you take them off.” They gazed at each other confused before taking the first set off, enough so that the girl could at least move her arms in all directions, but kept the ankle chains on the girl. Well that was a start.
“No – Im not here for that, but I did get that, and thank you, apology accepted.” Rachel didn’t quite know if she should have said that or not, but just in case she did. It didn’t look like Santana had put a lot of effort into the writing of the letter, but writing it at all was a big step that Rachel was glad to see in the girl. “but- I am here..” She bit her lip playing with the necklace that jesse had gotten her, “ I am here against the wishes of both my fathers, and my boyfriend. They don’t really think it’s a good idea, but I feel like I need to do it, and it is my decision so no one can go against it.” Rachel looked in her purse again and pulled out a paper, it was folded neatly and she handed it to Santana. “Before I came, I went by the court house and talked to the judge – after he said he was glad to see me ok, I asked him to sign this.” She pointed to the paper, “It’s a written document signed by the judge dropping all charges put on you.” Shrugging she continued,” I can’t even remember the night, and though everyone seems to think I should be upset with you, I just can’t be. I don’t remember it, I just felt the pain…” Rachel smoothed out her dress before continuing, “Though my dads won’t let us room together on a competition, I couldn’t let you stay here, you don’t deserve it. And we need you. New Directions needs you.” Looking at Santana she waited for a response, “Im here to bail you out Santana…”
