No one would ever accuse glee kids of lacking a dramatic flare. Whether it was digging deep into their feelings to sing out a glorious ballad, or allowing their emotions to get the better of them in very public fashion, they had a habit of putting themselves in some very challenging circumstances. As Blaine understood it, something along those lines had occurred a gLo. The Warbler had not been in attendance, but he was hearing all sorts of crazy and ridiculous stories about what went down, and he figured he should probably go to a primary source, rather than listening to the gossip and rumors. Blaine certainly hoped that no one from Dalton was involved with Rachel Berry ending up at the hospital.
Blaine and Rachel were not the closest of freinds. Certainly, they had their brief romance, which solidified to Blaine his homosexuality, but they were mostly just friendly rivals, brought closer by their affinity toward one Kurt Hummel. As much as anything, Blaine respected the New Directions' resident diva for her talent and ambition which, though he was loathe to admit it, very likely outshone his own. That was as evident as ever at Regionals the past year, when she lead the New Directions to a victory over Blaine and the Warblers. That had stung, and perhaps a little, though truly only a little, part of him was scoping out the competition. By and large though, he just wanted to ensure that the gril was recovering well.
Knocking gently on the heavy hospital door, he nudged it open, smiling brightly at the hospital gown-adorned girl, "Knock, knock," he said, "How are you feeling? I heard you had a bad run in with the wrong side of Santana's fist." Taking a spot next to the girl, he planted an innocent kiss atop the girl's head. "Well, you're in luck. I happen to have on me, digitally remastered copies of Funny Girl, Hello Dolly and a completely free afternoon." tagged:Rachel words: A couple notes:Sorry for being a bit short, promise the next will be better lyrics: raise your glass by p!nk credit: LAVIEBOHEME @ caution 2.o

Rachel hated it here – It had been nearly a week and a half already, and they just now took her mask off. She was still had her Iv’s, but other than that, she was completely free of everything. Sadly, the girl was alone, with the drab white walls, and absolutely nothing on tv. Jesse had kept his promise and he was with her every day, up until today, where he had to go back to Lima and Work on Swan Lake. He had already missed two practices, and promised her that he would tape all of the other practices that she missed. The feeling of complete and utter loneliness consumed her as she turned her TV off, watching a doctor come into the room, meandering over to her side of the bed and quickly changing the dressing on her forehead. He started small tack, but Rachel gave short small answers, nothing that would lead on to another question. Rachel just wanted to sleep the day away, and kill this loneliness.
The doctor seemed worried for her, but didn’t say another word as he walked out the door, closing it tightly behind him and leaving the room completely silent – aside from her breathing, which was done all by herself now. Kurt hadn’t seen her, the only person from her own club that had come by was Finn, and that was a bad confrontation in itself. Eventually everything would set itself right, Rachel knew that, but just waiting for that time was killing her. Pulling her blanket over her shoulders, she closed her eyes, letting her body lull itself to sleep.
Dancing, Rachel was dancing, in her ballet slippers, in her big Odette costume, she felt like the queen that she was. Jesse held her and danced with her as they went, twirling and spinning to the beat. Everything was perfect – everything was blissful, perfect, until her eyes flashed open, catching a glimpse of the white wall, and the bright light that was filtering through the window, Jesse had perched numerous amounts of flowers there and the water from the vases made the light twinkle against the cold hard floor. That voice though, it was familiar.
“blaine!” his kiss was brotherly, and she leaned over the bed, pulling him into a quick hug before laying back down. “Yeah – from what I was told, it was pretty bad, but I don’t remember a minute of it.” She smiled at him and gasped in delight, “Oh blaine you’re my hero!” Rachel laughed, “how did you find out…?” She asked, her voice turning serious again, she wanted to set everything as clear as possible before anything spread around, “ I heard it was on the news – but what is everyone saying..?”

Blaine was relieved to see that Rachel was at least somewhat lucid. Given some of the accounts he had heard, a part of him had worried that she might wonder who the heck this curly-haired stranger waltzing into her room was. Instead, she seemed rather excited to see him, even leaning up in her bed to offer him a side hug. Although to be fair, it was unclear whether or not she was more excited to see him, or to see the Barbra films in his hand. Blaine grinned as he took a spot at the side of her bed, "Any excuse to pull out the classic Barbra." he said with a light chuckle, draping an arm around the diva. Blaine could sympathize better than most, perhaps. He had experience being on the wrong side of a teenage beatdown. Of course, his was not as intense as Rachel's appeared, but he understood what it was like to have a peer pummeling him into oblivion and feeling utterly helpless to stop it. For Blaine, the worst part had been having to explain to everyone what happened to him, having to tell his parents that a bunch of homophobes had beaten the living daylights out of him. It was embarrassing. "Not a bad thing to have amnesia about. Trust me when I tell you, there's not much worth remembering about getting the crap beaten out of you,"he told her, squeezing her shoulder lightly, being careful not to hurt the girl. He continued to smile, but he could not help the hint of sadness in his reflection. "I certainly wouldn't mind forgetting."The conversation shifted as Rachel inquired about how Blaine found out, and perhaps more interestingly, what all people were saying. The truth was, Blaine had heard some absurd renditions about what happened between the two girls. "Well, Kurt told me a little bit, but I haven't had much opportunity to talk to him about it," he said with a shrug. "As for what I've heard, well, you know how these kinds of things can spread. I've heard everything from Santana caught you kissing Sam and freaked out, to you told her that she had no talent, to the two of you are secret lesbian lovers and you broke up with her. Although to be fair, that last one might have just been made up by some hopeful boys at Dalton," he concluded with a wink. "It doesn't really matter what people are saying though," Blaine added, "What matters is that Santana won't be pulling anything like this again, and getting you back on your feet in time for the ballet, and as much as I hate saying it, the glee club competition. Because frankly, beating the New Directions won't mean as much if you're missing in action." he finished with a playful grin. tagged:Rachel words: A couple notes:<3 lyrics: raise your glass by p!nk credit: LAVIEBOHEME @ caution 2.o

The relieved look on Blaine’s face made Rachel happy, that meant that he was worried for her. Well happy in the fact that someone cared, not so much that he worried. Grinning he took the seat next to the bed – the one that Jesse had pulled up to the bed, and spent countless hours singing to her, talking to her and caring for her. She loved every second of it and seeing someone else in that seat was different, but not bad. She enjoyed Blaine, and he mad Kurt happy, which in turn made her happy. “Of course! Jesse just brought Rent by, we watched it yesterday. I’ve been craving some good Barbra, or a chance to sing at all – the doctor doesn’t want me to sing. Something with my diaphragm, it will be fine for later, but I just don’t have the ‘strength’ to sing now.” Rachel pouted gently, but it more came off as sad eyes. She wasn’t herself if she didn’t get to sing.
Blaine spoke about not minding the ability to forget, or not remembering at all in general. Kurt had briefly explained that he wasn’t exactly given the star treatment because he was gay either. There was so much in common between the two that Rachel always smiled when she saw them together, but Rachel highly doubted that he was hurt as much as she was –but it still must have hurt, “It must really suck – remembering that. I just remember the pain, I don’t remember the fear of what happened, I just feel.” She nudged him gently smiling, “You’ll forget eventually, with time, better memories kick the sad ones away. But it still isn’t something I want to forget all together, just because I feel completely out of the loop about something that happened to me, and for some reason that just isn’t right. If they are going to talk about me, I might as well know what exactly happened. You know?” She understood his stance, but she wanted him to understand hers.
Rachel was happy when he was open to telling her all the things that people were saying about it. It was like having a spy on the other side in a war, but of course this was much different. She was cooped up in a hospital bed with the nurses, doctors Jesse and her fathers to talk to – it was crazy. “I really haven’t talked to Kurt a whole lot either, he’s been busy, busy enough to not make it here.” She let him continue – her pouting aside. Each story seemed to get worse as the lies that teens her age spun and spun, quickly making lie filled webs that stuck everywhere. “Well that isn’t what happened at all!” Rachel, a lesbian, god she had to tell Jesse that one, “and I think you were right about that last one.” She smiled, but then sighed, “ She was mad at me already for the loss at nationals, she almost got me there, but she had guys holding her back. This time, I accidentally sprayed her with my drink, Or so I’m told, and she went nuts, throwing me around, I heard she threw me to the ground and slammed my face into the floor…. A lot.” Rachel winced at the memory, “It would explain the nose, and my broken knuckles, but it’s just so far fetched.” But a smile came back “Not as crazy as the lesbian story, but still crazy.”
Rachel laughed, “And the Warblers would be nothing without you! I can’t wait for this summer competition, or for Swan Lake! I have tickets for you and Kurt, along with the rest of his family! I thought you would enjoy them.” She kept in her thoughts for going to talk to Santana, maybe she would tell him later, but now seemed like a bad time. “So talking about the competition, do you have your set-list out yet? I’ve just finished ours. It’s wonderful.”

Blaine arched a thick eyebrow as Rachel explained how Jesse had brought rent by the day before. To be honest, he wasn't fully sure which act he found less favorable, that Jesse St. James was sitting vigil at her bedside, or that she had watched the movie version of Rent. He paused for a moment, debating whether or not he should remark on it, but the Warbler was nothing if not honest, if somewhat lacking in tact. "Look, Rachel I hope I'm not overstepping, and if I am, you don't have to answer but, what are you doing with Jesse St. James? Didn't he try to make an omelet out of your face last year or something? I mean, he's insanely talented, and the two of you would make fantastic duet partners, but are you sure you know what you're getting into?" Blaine queried, knowing that his words might upset the mercurial girl, particularly in her fragile condition. Still, it needed to be said. "I'm not going to tell you how to live your life, I just don't want you to get hurt by this guy again."
As Blaine listened to the girl explain how she wished that she could recall everything that happened to her, he realized just how different the two of them were. When he was faced with a problem too overwhelming, too painful for him to deal with, he wanted to erase it from his memory. He had left public school because bullies chased him out, and for the most part, he never looked back. He never confronted his tormentors like Kurt had confronted Karofsky. Rachel had been physically beaten to a greater extent than Blaine, that was certain, but his pain had gone beyond that. His abuse was emotional as well. He was made to feel like a lesser human being, and he had allowed a few bigoted idiots to get the better of him. The reason he wished he could forget about all that was not just because it hurt, but because he felt so ashamed of it. He nodded along as Rachel explained her stance, perfectly content to allow the topic to drop by the wayside afterward.
Blaine listened intently as she explained the true story, at least as she had come to understand it. Frowning slightly as she remarked that Kurt had not come by to visit, he made a mental note to pester his boyfriend into stopping by to see the girl. It did not exactly make sense. Santana was a certifiable wench, probably even prone to violent reactions, and Blaine had some off the wall theories about her of his own, but attacking Rachel over a spilled drink seemed a bit ridiculous, even for her. "That....seems excessive" he remarked as the girl concluded her story. Something just did not quite seem right. "Well, I'm glad you're going to be alright, though frankly I think the lesbian story is far more interesting."
Blaine smiled as Rachel insisted that the Warblers would be nothing without him. He was not an arrogant performer, but he knew her words were true. That was actually something that concerned him. He looked at the New Directions, and they were filled to the brim with diverse talent. They could tackle any song they wanted and have a suitable soloist. The Warblers only had Blaine, which meant they were somewhat limited stylistically. As much as the curly-haired boy enjoyed the spotlight, and make no mistake, he does, he knew that if the Warblers were going to topple competition likes the New Directions and Vocal Adrenaline, they needed another star.
"Oh, Kurt let me know that we were going weeks ago. He even put it on my google calendar. I'm excited for it," Blaine said. Truthfully, he was not the biggest ballet fan in the world, but he could appreciate the artistic energy and talent that went into it enough to enjoy the evening. Plus, he would get to spend the night with Kurt. There were very few more desirable activities in Ohio. In fact, a sappy contented expression came over his face even as he brought up the boy's name. How it had taken him so long to realize that the two of them just fit together was a testament to just how oblivious he could be. "I'm sure your set-list is wonderful. Our set-list, however, is utterly magnificent, and, at this point, still utterly top secret. Though I promise you'll be the first to know once it's public knowledge, after Kurt anyway."

The happy wall that had been built around her, the one the she and Jesse had built was pushed over like a feeble sand castle knocked over by a wave crashing into the shore. Blaine was worried that she didn’t know what she was getting into, and she slowly shrugged his arm away from her shoulders. “Jesse was there for me.” She gave him a sidelong glance before looking back to her hands that were perched delicately in her lap. “Jesse has been here for me every day-“ her voice was starting to rise with anger and emotion, “It’s more than I can say for anyone else!” shaking her head, Rachel looked over to Blaine, “I’m with Jesse because I still have feelings for him, and he for me.” Brown eyes locked with his, “Have you ever done something that you truly regret? Something that you feel every day that you shouldn’t have done? That’s how he feels. He’s sorry – he’s apologized, and I believe him.”
Scrunching her face, she held in her tears. Rachel couldn’t tell if she was upset because Blaine was questioning Jesse, or if it was the fact that Jesse seemed to be the only one, besides her dads, who cared enough to come see her and care for her. She looked back at her hands, “He shares my passion, he understands my love, my competitive wants and needs. He makes me happy – and I him.” She ran a finger under her eyes, making sure she wasn’t crying. “Blaine… Everyone hates him, and it isn’t fair. He did egg me… but, I’ve forgiven him.” She looked at the boy, “Why can’t you…?” When he spoke again, Rachel took in a shaky breath. “I trust him, I trust you, would you please trust me?” All she wanted was people to understand her love for Jesse. She never questioned Blaine and Kurt’s relationship – or Lauren and Puck’s, but everyone always came down on her when she had anything to do with a guy. It was as if her glee club had decided that they didn’t want her to be in a relationship. As if her talent was more important. ‘no’ Rachel thought to herself, taking a deep breath. They did care for her, but they didn’t trust Jesse. Eventually they would trust him, and eventually they would be happy for her.
The true story was different than the other stories that she was told, but it was the truth – or what had been reciprocated back to her from the many police officers and doctors had told her. “You’re telling me.” Rachel murmured, trying to calm herself even more listening to how he enjoyed some of the other stories more. Smiling she continued to gaze at her hands, “I promise you, I would never date Santana, before this or after. There is nothing that we have in common, besides glee, so I am positive she would probably just end up hating me – seeing as I am the end of all of her jokes.” There were so many jokes that Rachel could come up with that she couldn’t pick one to tell him.
Rachel understood how he would enjoy her compliment – the brunette still enjoyed it when people told her of the talent that she had, even if that meant that before she sang she reminded her audience to tell her after she finished. Some people saw it as cocky, but sometimes she just needed to be told how special she was so that she herself would believe it. But there was no way that Rachel believed that Blaine was any better than the rest of her own glee club. Rachel knew that if he was the only one to really sing, then that would give New Directions something an advantage over the other group. She was more worried for Vocal Adrenaline than the Warblers.
“I am so excited for it that you don’t even know! I was actually fearful that I wasn’t going to get Odette again. After getting the role three years in a row, I had to get her my senior year or it would just be a slap in the face, right? And Jesse got the part of the prince, so I get to dance with him. When he came back to Lima after his college problems, he decided to take ballet where I did, and got the role.” Rachel was still excited that they all were coming to see her. Maybe they would bring her roses, roses were always her favorite – but either way, she would take flowers. “I don’t think that your set-list could be any stronger than ours, not to mention our group is perfect for the songs.” Rachel winked and smiled, “but no, I am not letting anyone outside New Directions know the songs. You’ll just have to wait until the Competition.” Grinning Rachel shrugged, “we just have to choreograph the dances and learn the music – that is after I get out of here.”
A confused look fell over her face, but she wiped it of quickly – deciding that he didn’t need to know, “Which one first?” she asked, pointing at the Barbra hits. “You decide.”

The raw fact of the matter was, if even the amiable Blaine Anderson could knock over the happy castle built up by Jesse and Rachel, then perhaps the girl needed to consider some serious fortification. Compared to her other friends, particularly those in New Directions, the Warbler had been downright tame in his criticisms of their relationship. Blaine knew that his words would likely only be echoed with more conviction by his boyfriend, let alone the more outspoken members of the club like a Lauren or a Finn. A considerable part of him wanting to keep going. He wanted to let the girl know that Jesse was only attempting to attach his own floundering star to her's. He wanted to remind her that it was easy to be there for someone for a week. It was an entirely different scenraio to be their for them full-time.
But he was not at the hospital to fix the girl's dramatic love life. He had come to support her after the physical beatdown she received at the hand's of Santana, and Blaine was pretty sure that getting her worked up was not helping anyone. Letting out a deep exhale, he took the girl, who was practically trembling as she defended Jesse, by the hand, "Look, Rachel, Jesse is going to have to prove himself to all of your friends before anyone is going to trust him," he said flatly, "But, if you love him, and he loves you, then I can respect your choice to be with Jesse. Although I do question his taste in musicals adaped for the silver screen." He squeezed Rachel's hand lightly as he finished to punctuate the point. It was not exactly a full-fledged endorsement of their budding relationship, but he was not going to make anything more difficult for her than it needed to be. There would be enough objections to the couple in the future anyway, Blaine did not need to join the chorus of disapproval. "I am happy that you found someone. You deserve to be happy, Rachel. Hey, maybe the two of you can even join Kurt and I on a double-date when you're out of here."
Things were always slightly awkward when he and any of the New Directions members started to talk competition. Obviously, both he and Rachel were extremely competitive, and after the loss at Regionals, he was eager to show her that the Warblers were just as good and talented as the New Directions. The judges at Sectionals had certainly thought so. It was not as if the all-male a cappella group was completely out of their league, but they certainly had their work cut out for them if they wanted to hold their own, against not just the New Directions, but Vocal Adrenaline, who was all but Glee Club legend. It was especially important for Blaine that the Warblers perform well because it was the first time they would be performing with him on the Council. Between that, and being the featured soloist, the teenager felt a considerable amount of pressure. They did not have to win, but they could not get crushed, or it would spoil morale for the rest of the year. Blaine grinned as Rachel withheld information regarding the New Directions' set-list, "All I can say is that I hope I do the diva justice." he told the girl. Then pretending as if he just had an epiphany, he put on a pseudo-serious face and added, "Oh I know! Maybe you can give me some tips on how to get in touch with my inner prima donna." He considered confiding in her his secret anxiety over the competition, but decided to keep that hidden for the time being. Rachel was a friend, but she was also a competitor, and a fierce one at that. If she smelled blood in the water, well, the Warblers might be out of it before it started. No, better to keep his insecurities to himself, and maybe Kurt, and keep up a bold front for now.
Scratching his head as she told him to pick between the Barbra films, Blaine shook his head. "You can't ask me to pick between Streisand flicks. That's like asking me to pick my favorite child." Blaine paused for a moment, shaking his head at his own comment, "Wow, and to think their was a time when I doubted that I was gay. Well, let's go chronologicaly, so Funny Girl up first."

The thing was, Blaine was being kind. Or that is what people would normally say if they heard what he was saying about Jesse, but in her state anything said about Jesse just hurt her more than in normally would have. In essence she felt like she owed him something, for taking care of her mentally when she was cooped up in this place. It took someone special to just drop everything and stay with you for as long as you needed, making sure that you never got bored and were never unhappy. Not only that, but there was the explosive breakup between Rachel and Finn that happened little after she had woken up. Everything that she felt, and everything that she had ever felt came up in tears and screams that day. Finn wasn’t pleased – and part of her still cared for him. Maybe not in a boyfriend Girlfriend way, but she cared for him enough that it hurt her when he was upset. New Directions was founded on drama, but the more drama that piled itself up, the harder it was to walk in. It wasn’t as if any of the members judged her, but everyone knew everything, and that was hard sometimes.
Jesse was drama, she knew that. Rachel entered the relationship the first, and the second time knowing that drama would happen. It had to happen, Rachel Berry had enough dramatic times for herself, but adding Jesse, who also tended to be a drama queen wasn’t always what some people would say was the best idea. But she loved his presence, and how much he loved her voice. She was happy around Jesse, Rachel just wished that everyone else was ok with him Frazzled, she felt Blaine take her hand, his soft voice covering hers. Opening her mouth to speak, he continued on, and Rachel stopped, allowing him to continue. A small smile worked its way onto the girls face before she made eye contact – “Thank you Blaine, that really means a lot to me.” Having someone actually respect her decision, someone that was her age, really made Rachel feel better about her decision. Making it wasn’t easy, and following through was harder. She didn’t need crap from everyone when she already went through hell to figure it out. “You mean the movie Rent? No! We didn’t watch that. He has the last performance of Rent with the Original Broadway cast. It’s the only way we role.” Blaine squeezed her hand, and she returned the favor. The smile that was already plastered across her face grew wider at the thought of a double date. “I would love that, and so would Jesse. Maybe after Swan Lake we could go get something to eat.” Ballet always gave her a pang of hunger in her stomach. She would have to talk to Jesse about it, but she doubted that he would have any problem with that.
Anything that had to do with Glee was never easy to talk about around other clubs. New Directions always had something taken from them, whether it was because someone had leaked their set-list, or someone had left them to go back to his old club, something bad happened to New Directions. It made it hard for Rachel to trust a lot of people with important glee matters. All she wanted was to make sure that they made it to the top, and if someone took that from them while under her watch, she would never live it down. “So you are covering a female artist again?” That would be good information to keep – whether he was blowing smoke or not, if she kept that, it might be of use to her. Rachel smiled, but was wary to answer him, something just didn’t feel right about what he was asking about. “I would have thought you would have gone to Kurt about that before myself – not that I don’t mind to help.” ‘but it’s odd’ she thought, keeping his hand in hers. Rachel did trust Blaine, but she has been trained to protect her club, and most importantly her own talent.
Laughing, Rachel looked at the movies, “I never asked which one was your favorite silly, just to pick one to watch! We’ll end up watching both in the end.” Blaine murmured something about being gay and decided on Funny Girl. “ My dads used to watch this all the time, mostly when I was upset – especially when I was little - , and they would make me sing for them. It always made me smile.” Reminiscing about he childhood, Rachel looked at her hands for a moment before perking back up “How was your six flags audition?”

Blaine understood what it was like, to be in a relationship and be told by others that they disapprove. Perhaps that was why he was so willing to drop his criticism of Rachel and Jesse. While both the Warblers and the New Directions had expressed their support of the boys pairing up, Kurt went to a school full of individuals who would rather see him humiliated for loving Blaine than happy. Blaine's father was less than enthusiastic about the fact that his son was dating another male. It killed him to see the frown upon his father's face whenever he announced that he was going on a date with Kurt. He did not want to be a contribution to that merciless feeling for Rachel.
Blaine let out a dramatic sigh of relief when Rachel admitted that Jesse and she had watched a film of the original cast of Rent, rather than the awful movie that had polluted movie theaters nation wide a couple years prior. "Well that makes me feel better." he said with a boyish chuckle. Not that his entire character profile of Jesse was categorically alterred by the fact that he had decent taste, but sometimes those little silly superficials things helped. To be fair, Blaine recognized that he did not personally know Jesse. All he knew of him came from Kurt, and he also recognized that his boyfriend had a flare for the theatrical.
Blaine cocked an eyebrow as Rachel asked for clarification that the Warblers were covering a female artist. It was not that he was attempting to hide that fact, after all, half his solos with the Warblers were probably originally sung by a female, but she just seemed like she was prying for a strategic advantage. Blaine smiled, "Yep...Dolly Parton's I Will Always Love You. It suits my voice, don't you think?"Blaine paused just long enough to hopefully make the girl wonder if he was serious before giggling once more, "No, no. I'm pretty sure to sing Dolly, I'd have to wear a platinum blond wig, and I just don't think the Warblers are ready for that yet."
It was nice to have someone who appreciated a good classic musical as much as Blaine did. True, Kurt mostly filled that void for Blaine, but he had spent so long surrounded by mostly straight boys who had absolutely no interest in suffering through a Barbra marathon. "I can't say my father ever really encouraged me to sing musicals. He was always terrified that I'd grow up and be a queer," he remarked, instantly wishing he had not said those words. It was one of those things Blaine preferred not to think too much about.
Rachel inquired how his six flags audition had gone, causing Blaine to groan ever so slightly. "It was one of the more humiliating moments of my life. Not sure I've ever quite felt like as big of a fool as I did then. Mind you, that almost certainly means that I got it." He meant that as a joke, but it was pretty much true. Singing in a theme park was not exactly glamorous, but it was probably a better gig than working at a restaurant or mowing lawns. At least it was up the alley of what Blaine wanted to be doing, even if it meant subjecting himself to a mild dose of public humiliation. How about for you, what's on the docket after Swan Lake? I know you won't be taking it easy, like you probably should after something like this happened to you."

Acceptance was all that the girl craved. Even though she had been through two years of hell, being slushied and put lower on the high school food chain than the AV club, there was a part of her that really wanted to be believed. Assuming that she would have been over this silly feeling by now, there was a sense of annoyance over the girl every time she realized that she wanted to be accepted. It was a feeling that all girls her age felt – and Rachel Berry Knew that – but at the same time if she was going to make it in the theatre world, she wouldn’t be able to go through her life having everyone like her, or the decisions that she made. With Jesse, it just seemed to hurt more because it was New Directions that didn’t accept her; if anyone should be ok with her, it should be them.
When Blaine had questioned her movie going experience, she was surprised that he assumed she had watched the film version of Rent, which was probably almost as bad as the movie edition of Chicago that came out. Her fathers mistakenly got her that for her birthday and she didn’t have the heart to throw it out. So it currently resided under her bed in a plastic grave that was only temporary. Rachel laughed as he expressed his happiness at the fact that they didn’t watch the movie version, “That actually might have killed me. It was that bad.” She was exaggerating just a bit, but in reality, she would never watch it. The Broadway Show was so much better than the movie that it was obnoxious, it would bring down her memories of the actual show that she did see – and that was the last thing that she wanted to happen.
Rachel of course was very interested in the songs that they were singing. Any advantage that New Directions could get would help. Knowing what songs that the other schools were putting out gave them a chance to turn around some of the songs in their set list to give them a stronger voice against theirs. Of course, Rachel would rather have a foot up on Vocal Adrenaline, mostly because they usually had a strong setlist, not to mention somehow a strong flow of money and strong choreographers. They would have a hard time beating Vocal Adrenaline than they would the Warblers, or that is how Rachel saw it. When the girl actually heard what song he was planning to do. Keeping the strong sense of disapproval off her face, Rachel tried to speak, but was interrupted by the warbler – telling her that what she had just heard was a joke. “You kind of scared me there for a minute Blaine. You may be my competition, but I don’t think I would have let you go to that competition with that song in your set-list. I’d rather win because of vocals, not because of a set-list malfunction. “ A smile came on her face, “I’m enough of a friend that I would tell you at least that I would never sing it.” Even though she could be rude, and normally she would be, Rachel was trying to get a relationship with him – the last thing it needed was a stab in the back. “but I could see the warblers in wigs.” Rachel giggled, “And it’s a sad sad sight.”
Grabbing his hand, Rachel Felt terrible about what he had to go through with his father. Rachel of course never felt that sing, mostly because her dads didn’t care if she turned out homo or hetrosexual. That was a good thing about gay dads, they loved you for who you were, not for a stereotype that two ‘normal’ parents wanted upon a child. “Well I think you turned out alright.” She squeezed it gently, “if you ever need a duet partner ever, you can come over and sing about it. But your father isn’t like that anymore is her…?” she didn’t mean to overstep any boundaries , but she wanted to make sure that her friend was ok – and not being abused mentally by his father, that would kill her.
“Good! I heard that you were really excited about going, and I really hope you get it! If you ever need a guest star, I don’t think that there would be a problem with me coming out and helping you.” Rachel winked, but in all she really didn’t even know what kind of things that his ‘job’ did. He probably didn’t even need her help, but putting herself out there was always helpful. “As for myself, I have the competition of course, but I have my singing job at Yesterday – the café downtown in lima. Not to mention community theatre which I’m going to try and get into. It just depends on what is going to be playing in the theatre. I also have New Directions stuff – but dance classes and everthing will make my schedule will be tight.

Truthfully, Blaine did not like competing against the New Directions. Not that he feared them, but because he generally found himself rooting for them. Even before Kurt returned to the group, their passion and enthusiasm for what they were doing was palpable, even in the back of an auditorium. He just hoped that the judges a few weeks from now felt the same way about the Warblers. Critics liked to see that performers really wanted the prize. It made them feel better about crushing the spirit of the losers. The curly-haired boy wanted to win, quite badly, and though his friendships on New Directions, and of course with Kurt, were more important, he was also not going to give away anything to rivals. Hence, his polite, though ultimately ambiguous, joke about singing Dolly Parton. He wanted them to be as surprised, and hopefully awe-inspired as anyone when the Warblers took the stage.
The topic did turn decidedly more solemn as Blaine alluded to disapproval from his father. He rarely discussed their relationship, even with Kurt, as it was still too raw of a subject. His mother, well, she had tolerated his homosexuality. She might not appreciate it, but she still loved Blaine, and told him as such. It made her uncomfortable, but she did her best to learn to embrace all aspects of her baby boy. When he came out to his Dad, the man had just left the room, and Blaine was not really sure the two had really spoken since. They had exchanged in cordial small-talk, occasionally veering to illustrious topics such as college football or cars, but rarely anything beyond that. In fact, Blaine had not even told the man he was dating Kurt. It was one thing to be gay, but it was a whole different thing to act gay. Blaine really was not sure his father could handle it if he knew that his son was dating someone as unique and out as Kurt.
So, Blaine had kept that to himself, telling only his sister, whom he was fairly certain had informed their mother, but their father remained in the dark. That was made ever more poignant when after the Warblers defeat at Regionals, Mr. Anderson's only remark was how foolish it was for Blaine to sing a love song with "a boy like that." Of course, he had said, the judges were going to be uncomfortable with the idea of two boys singing a love song to each other. It just was not how the song was meant to be performed. Inititally, Blaine had just been happy that his father had even bothered to attend the performance, but from then on, he really wished he could have just performed in front of a room full of strangers. It was for the same reason that Blaine always insisted on either going out or going to the Hummel residence. It was one thing for him to be made to feel so small by his father, but he would not allow Kurt to feel that way. Of course, he could not keep that kind of thing up forever, but it worked for now.
Realizing it had been a little too long since Rachel had querried regarding his father, Blaine snapped to attention. For a moment, he considered telling her the truth, about how alone he felt in his house, even when the family was all there. Instead, however, he simply plastered a smile on his face and responded, "Oh no. We have a great relationship now," he lied, hoping that the girl either could not tell he was attempting to deceive her, or was polite enough not to call him out on it. This was the Blaine Anderson way, to pretend the problems were not real so his life was easier to face. In dawned on him at that moment that he was somewhat envious of Rachel's situation. While he knew that he did not need gay parents to be accepted, it certainly would have eliminated a lot of unnecessary tension.
Blaine hoped the discussion was officially dropped as they shifted gears to discuss their summer plans and jobs. Blaine smiled, this time sincerely, as Rachel offered to be his duet partner. "I may just take you up on that. Some of the girls they have there are, well, a bit less than glee club worthy. Don't get me wrong, they try hard, but they just don't have any stage presence. Not to mention that we already have established that we have chemistry singing together," he remarekd with a wink. Of course, that had probably not been the proudest night for either of them. Rachel had her first encounter of the drunken kind, while Blaine had questioned his sexuality, but they still had enjoyed singing together. Of course, the body shots might have had something to do with that, but that was really neither here nor there.
"Hello Gorgeous," resonated from the screen and Blaine grinned at the memorable opening line. Oh, Barbra.
